Bangladesh proposes green energy fund in D-8 meet

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh has proposed for setting up a joint investment fund to promote green energy initiative within the member countries of the D-8.
"I firmly believe it will help us a lot in enhancing intra D- 8 trade and investment to successfully negotiate with the adverse effects and challenges of global climate change," Industries Minister Dilip Barua told the concluding session of the three-day second D-8 Ministerial meeting on Industry in Istanbul on Thursday, according to a message received here.
Turkey's Minister for Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergun and ministers, ambassadors, delegates and senior officials of member countries were present.
Mr. Barua also urged his fellow ministers to motivate their entrepreneurs to invest in the emerging industrial sector of Bangladesh, taking advantage of the facilities provided by the Bangladesh government.
During the sixth D-8 Summit, Bangladesh proposed for creating a D-8 Food Fund for ensuring food security among the member countries, the industries minister said, adding that he believes such a fund is the demand of the time and should be fully operational.
The first D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Industry was held in Tehran on February 28- March 2 last year, where Barua represented Bangladesh.
The four-member Bangladesh delegation led by Industries Minister Dilip Barua left Dhaka on October 3 for Turkey. The delegation includes Industries Secretary KH Masud Siddiqui and BCIC chairman M Golam Robbani.
Mr. Barua is scheduled to visit Ukraine to see the possibility of fertilizer import.
He is expected to return home on October 11.
