Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Expressing solidarity with the grand rally of Shahbagh in the capital, people from all walks of life on Friday held protest rallies at different places across the country demanding death penalty for all war criminals, including Abdul Quader Mollah and a ban on the politics of Jamaat and Shibir.
Rallies were held at all divisional headquarters and other areas including Chittagong, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur, Jessore, Barguna, Patuakhali and Kurigram for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, according to reports.
Besides, spontaneous participation of thousands of people, including academics, cultural activists and youngsters, leaders and supporters of different pro-liberation political parties joined these rallies carrying banners, festoons and play-cards.
In the port city Chittagong, thousands of people staged sit-in demonstration in front of Chittagong Press Club (CPC) for the fourth consecutive day on Friday demanding capital punishment of all war criminals.
Different social, cultural and political organizations, including Udichi, Mohila Parishad, CPB, Chhatra Union, Chhatra Front, Proma, Bodhon, Chhatra League, Awami Prajanmo League, Chittagong and Online Activist Forum, joined the sit-in demonstration.
In Rajshahi, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote held a rally at Alu Patti in Rajshahi city yesterday. Different political parties and cultural organizations also joined the rally. Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton and Fazle Hossain Badsha MP expressed their solidarity with the programme.
Separate rallies were held at the Khulna city's Shibbari intersection, Shaheed Hadithpark and Royal Crossing today demanding capital punishment for all war criminals, including Quader Mollah.
In Barisal, six organizations jointly set up a temporary podium-Ekattor Mancha'-on the premises of Ashwani Kumal Hall where a rally was held today demanding death penalty for Quader Mollah and other war criminals.
Protestors held a rally at the Shaheed Minar in Sylhet for the fourth consecutive day on Friday demanding death penalty for all war criminals. Dr Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Advocate Rajot Kanti Bose, Al Azad and Sadruzzaman, among others, addressed the rally.
In Ranjgur, a rally was held in front of the press club demanded capital punishment for Quader Mollah and other war criminals. Bipan Prashad, Sadrul Alam Dulu, Dr Mofizul Islam, Moazzam Hossain and Shahin Akter, among others, addressed the rally.
Rallies were also held at Jessore, Barguna, Patuakhali and Kurigram today demanding capital punishment for all war criminals and a ban on the politics of Jamaat-Shibir.
