Bangladesh raises duties on sugar, tea import

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government has increased specific duties on import of both raw and finished sugar and tea aiming to protect local industries, officials said.
 

The enhanced duties on raw and finished sugar will be BDT 2,000 per tonne and BDT 4,500 per tonne respectively against the previous rates of BDT 1,500 and BDT 3,000 per tonne, acrooding to the SRO.

Besides, the NBR also increased regulatory duty on import of tea to 15 percent from the previous rate of 5.0 percent, according to the officials.
