Bangladesh receives raw jute export orders from Thailand, Vietnam

Last updated: February 21, 2012
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- the state-run Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) has received orders for exporting 30,000 bales of raw jute and jute products to Thailand and 5,000 bales of raw jute to Vietnam, officials said.
New markets for Bangladeshi jute have been created in many countries in Africa and south Asia, a senior MJMC official said.
Experts hope the new markets in Thailand, Vietnam and some other countries in Africa will minimize the setback in jute export due to unrest in the Middle East and North Africa.
The export of jute and jute goods suffered a setback due to political unrest in different countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Jute export to Syria remained stopped, while the export volume to the Middle Eastern and North African countries came down to almost half.
Bangladesh exported around 1,00,000 tonnes of jute products till January this year against its target of 2, 20,000 tonnes for the current fiscal year 2011-12, according to the BJMC officials.
