Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh will remain the host country of the Asia Cup 2013-14, the decision was taken at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Saturday.
The meeting also included Afghanistan as the fifth team of the South Asian regional competition along with India, Pakistan Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The meeting in Colombo was chaired by BCCI president N Srinivasan, who is also chairman of the ACC. PCB CEO Subhan Ahmed, SLC president Jayantha Dharmadasa and CEO Nishantha Ranatunga, BCB president Nazmul Hassan and acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury along with presidents of the Singapore, Thailand and Bhutan cricket associations attended the meeting.
A total of 11 matches will be played in the tournament with the opening match expected to take place on February 25 and the final on March 8, 2014.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s status as the host nation was in doubt following the current political volatile situation created due to frequent strikes and blockades in the last few months.
In the last December, the West Indies Under-19s team had pulled out of their tour after an explosion near the team hotel in Chittagong.
Apart from the Asia Cup, Bangladesh is scheduled to host Sri Lanka for a bilateral series and will also stage the World Twenty20 beginning on March 16.
