Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dipu Moni has urged the UAE to invest in the country’s potential fields like power generation, oil, gas and mineral exploration and infrastructure development.

She made the urge while held a meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed M Nahyan in New York on Saturday on the sideline of the 66th UN General Assembly, according to a message received in Dhaka from the US on Sunday.

In reply, the UAE minister assured that he would sensitize their business community about the investment potentials in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed issues of mutual interest including the existing air services agreement between the two countries, cooperation between the Chittagong Port and DP Port of Dubai and the 4th Session of the
Joint Economic Commission to be held in Dhaka this year.

The Bangladesh foreign minister expressed satisfaction over the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the held of manpower cooperation and also apprised her counterpart off the introduction of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP).

Dipu Moni sought the support of the UAE to the candidature of Bangladesh for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council (2016-2017), UN Human Rights Council and international Maritime Organization (2011-2012).

The UAE foreign minister, who led their delegation to the 66th UNGA, assured that the candidature will receive serious consideration in view of the excellent bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohamed Mijarul Quayes was present during the meeting.
