Bangladesh signs $19.31million grant deal with UNDP Thursday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh government will sign a grant assistance deal with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for $19.31 million to implement the Upazila Governance Project (UZGP).

Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and UNDP country director Stefan Priesner are expected to ink the deal at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, an annoucment said.

The UZGP is part of the overall programmatic framework of UNDP and UNCDF support to Bangladesh in local governance reforms, assisted by the European Union, the governments of Switzerland (SDC) and Denmark (Danida).

The UZGP is the outcome of the preparatory assistance that UNDP implemented during 2009-2010 with support from SDC to address many challenges facing by upazila parishads (UZPs).

Local Government Division will implement the project to be completed by May 2016.
