Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government will sign an agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Sunday for financing three bridges on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said.
The three bridges are 2nd Kanchpur Bridge and 2nd Meghna Bridge in Narayanganj district and 2nd Meghna-Gumti Bridge partly covering Comilla and Munshiganj districts.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating works on Dhaka Chittagong Highway’s four-lane project (package-1) at Shahidnagar in Daudkandi on Saturday.
A total of BDT 90 billions will be required for building the three bridges. Of the amount, JICA will provide BDT 70 billions while the rest will come from the government, he said.
Referring to the repair works on Meghna and Meghna-Gumti Bridges on the highway, he said the final repair works on the bridges are set to begin on March 15, which will be completed by March 21. “Movement of vehicles over the bridges will remain closed during the repair works.”
