Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The government is set to start pre-budget discussion meeting from Thursday for the next fiscal year (FY) 2016-17, officials said.
The first session on the pre-budget meeting will take place at the National Economic Council (NEC) conference room in the capital Dhaka with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair
Four leading groups of economists are expected to participate at the today’s meeting, they added.
The groups are Dr Zaidi-Sattar-led PRI (Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh), Dr Sajjad Zohir-led ERG (Economic Research Group), state-owned BIDS (Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies) and the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA).

Such pre-budget parleys will continue until May next before finalizing the budget incorporating the innovative proposals from the key stakeholders in it.

The finance minister had earlier said that the size of the budget for the FY 17 will be BDT 3.45 trillion while it will be BDT 4.15 trillion for the FY 2017-18 and BDT 4.8 trillion for the FY 2018-19.

The size of the budget of the ongoing FY 16 is BDT 2.95 trillion. The budget was unveiled on June 4 last year.
