Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks stayed upbeat for the six running sessions on Monday with turnover crossing BDT 10 billion-mark on the premier bourse again amid investors’ buying spree on large-cap issues.
Analysts said stocks maintained the upward momentum as buying interest continued on large-cap issues amid optimism.
After witnessing high volatility in the first hour of trading, the rest of three hours of the session went up steadily amid modest volatility, ultimately ended 12.28 points higher.
The key index of the DSE advanced 12.28 points while the Selective Category Index the port city gained 24.40 points at closing.
DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), finished at 5,558.57, advancing 12.28 points or 0.22 percent.
DSEX added 235 points or 4.40 percent in the past six consecutive sessions.
The two other indices also ended higher.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 13.51 points or 0.67 percent to settle at 2,024.76 points.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 4.24 points or 0.32 percent to close at 1,299.03 points.
Turnover, the important indicator of the market, also rose to BDT 10.93 billion, which was 13 percent higher than the previous day’s BDT 9.66 billion.
However, the losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 329 issues traded, 174 closed lower, 119 closed higher and 36 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals dominated the turnover chart with 5.07 million shares worth BDT 469 million changing hands, closely followed by Appollo Ispat Complex BDT 425 million, LankaBangla Finance BDT 393 million, Pacific Denims BDT 290 million and Doreen Power Generations and Systems BDT 271 million.
Titas Gas was the day’s top gainer, positing a rise of 6.10 percent while NCC Bank Mutual Fund One was the worst loser, shedding 6.98 percent.
CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), also finished higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 24.40 points to settle at 10,24.40.
Losers beat gainers as 125 issues closed lower, 114 closed higher and 24 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 21.06 million shares and mutual fund units’ worth nearly BDT 686 million in turnover.
