Bangladesh stocks edge down amid low turnover

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): Stock prices on the bourses edged down on Thursday amid volatile trading throughout the session with declining turnover value amid countrywide hartal.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 3,720.35 points after losing 18.34 points or 0.49 per cent.

The total turnover value on the premier bourse came down to BDT 1.48 billion, down by 29.0 per cent from previous session’s one month high value.

Of the 270 issues traded at the DSE, 116 advanced, 127 declined and 27 remained unchanged.

Premier Cement was the most traded stocks on the day with shares worth BDT 83.11 million changing hands.

Sonali Ansh was the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 10 per cent while Samorita Hospital was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 6.46 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed negative with the Selective Categories Index lost 81.86 points or 1.46 per cent to close at 7,060.46 points.

Losers beat gainers 100 to 57 with 19 issues remaining unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 8.25 million shares and mutual fund units on a value of BDT 231.05 million.
