Bangladesh Taka depreciates 2 paisa further at closing

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated two paisa further against the US dollar following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market Monday evening.

The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.86 – 80.87 at the evening transactions.

In the opening trading, the exchange rate was quoted at maximum BDT 80.85 same as from October 22 evening trading.

“The local currency depreciated two paisa more against the American currency due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations mainly for food grains and petroleum products,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told the BBN in Dhaka this evening.

On October 19, the exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.83.

After it, the exchange rate of the Bangladesh currency remained static at 80.85 from October 22 to today’s morning trade.

Earlier from September 24 to October 16, the local currency remained static that means it was quoted at maximum BDT 80.80.

Bangladesh’s foreign exchange market remained closed on Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the country.
