Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated by maximum two paisa against the US currency in early hour transactions on Monday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 79.37 against BDT 79.35 of the previous working day till the report was filed at 11:44 am (local time).
On the other hand, the BDT has showed an appreciating trend against the US currency at customer level in the last couple of days, treasury officials said
The average exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level came down to BDT 80.28 56 on Sunday from BDT 80.3058 of the previous working day.
“Actually, we cannot understand what is the real market trend right now,” a senior treasury official of a commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the demand for the greenback eased slightly recently following increased inflow of foreign exchange in the market.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.75 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market came down to BDT 64.20 billion on Sunday from BDT 67.06 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Monday.
