Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated by seven paisa against the US dollar in early hour transactions on Monday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 78.72 against BDT 78.65 of the previous working day till the report was filed at 11:50am (local time).
“We’ve quoted the US currency at BDT 78.72 due to higher demand for the greenback in the market,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank (PCB) told the BBN in Dhaka.
He also said most of the banks are also quoting higher rates on the US dollar for both customer and exporter level.
The local currency deprecated by around three paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Sunday due to higher demand for the greenback in the market.
The exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level rose to BDT 79.3740 on Sunday from 79.3740 of the previous working day. It was BDT 79.3188 on Wednesday.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.75 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
