Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated slightly against the US dollar on Tuesday as increasing payment obligations before ending this calendar year, officials said.
The BDT depreciated by 0.02 per cent against the US dollar in the single day following an increased demand for the greenback to settle import payments by the commercial banks.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 77.91-BDT 77.92 in the inter-bank foreign exchange market on the day against BDT 77.90 of the previous working, according to the market operators.
“The existing trend of US$/BDT exchange rate may continue until the last working day of the outgoing calendar year,” a senior treasury official of a commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka.
The demand for US dollar has increased suddenly to settle payment obligations by the end of this calendar year, the treasury official explained.
