Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) depreciated two paisa on Wednesday against the US dollar due to increased import settlement pressure in inter-bank foreign exchange market.
The exchange rate of the Bangladesh currency against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 82.92 during the evening transaction.
In the opening trading today, the exchange rate of the local currency against the American currency was quoted at maximum BDT 82.90.
“The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka is still maintaining depreciating mood against the US currency mainly due to higher demand for the greenback to settle import payment obligations,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told the BBN in Dhaka Wednesday evening.
“The depreciating mood of the local currency may continue in the near future,” the treasury official added.
Bangladesh’s foreign exchange market remained closed on Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the country.
