Depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka continues

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The depreciating mode of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) continued against the US dollar following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market Wednesday evening.
The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.67 – BDT 80.68 at the evening transactions.
In the opening trading today, the exchange rate of the local currency was quoted BDT 80.66-BDT 80.68 same as previous working level.
“The depreciating mode of Bangladesh currency continued in the inter-bank foreign exchange market due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations mainly for food grains, petroleum products and capital machineries,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told the BBN in Dhaka Wednesday evening.
On Tuesday, the Bangladeshi currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.66 – BDT 80.68.
On Sunday and Monday, the local currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.65-BDT 80.66.
On the last working day of the last week that means on Thursday, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.65-BDT 80.66 during the evening trading.
Bangladesh foreign exchange market remained closed on Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the country.
