Bangladesh Taka remains stable against US dollar

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) remained stable against the US dollar in early hour transactions on Thursday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 78.75 unchanged from the previous level till the report was filed at 12:06pm (local time).
“The exchange rate of BDT against the US currency almost remained unchanged during the period under review following normal demand for the greenback in the market,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank (PCB) told the BBN in Dhaka.
But most of the banks are also quoting higher rates on the US dollar for customers to settle their import payment obligations, he explained.
The local currency deprecated by more than four paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Wednesday on the same ground.
The exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level rose to BDT 79.5683 on Wednesday from BDT 79.5212 of the previous working day. It was BDT 79.4615 on Monday.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.75 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market came down to BDT 46.39 billion on Wednesday from BDT 47.14 billion of the previous level, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Thursday.
