Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) remained stable against the US dollar in early hour transactions on Tuesday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at BDT 78.78-78.80 unchanged from the previous level till the report was filed at 12:36 pm (local time).
“The BDT/US$ rate almost stable after depreciation of the local currency maximum five paisa against the greenback on Monday,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank (PCB) told the BBN in Dhaka.
He also said most of banks are maintaining a ‘go-slow’ policy for selling their US dollar.
On the other hand, the deprecating tread of BDT against the US dollar continue for customers who are salting their import payment obligations.
The local currency deprecated nearly six paisa against the US dollar at customer level on Monday due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settling import payment obligations.
The exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level rose to BDT 79.7102 on Monday from BDT 79.6535 of the previous level. It was BDT 79.6256 on Thursday.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.75 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
