Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The exchange rate of Bangladesh Taka (BDT) remained stable against the US currency in early hour transactions on Thursday in inter-bank foreign exchange (forex) market.
The US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 78.85 unchanged from the previous working day till the report was filed at 11:54 am (local time).
“The exchange rate of local currency against the greenback remained almost unchanged due to lower demand for the US dollar in the inter-bank market,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the BDT also showed an appreciation mode against the US dollar at customer level on Tuesday.
The average exchange rate of the US dollar at customer level came down to BDT 79.8566 on Wednesday from BDT 79.8662 of the previous level.
However, the inter-bank call money rate remained stable in the range between 2.25 per cent and 4.50 per cent on the day mainly due to sufficient inflow of fund into the market.
The volume of overall transactions in the inter-bank call money market came down to BDT 52.96 billion on Wednesday from BDT 54.24 billion of the previous working day, according to the central bank latest statistics, released on Thursday.
