Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh Taka (BDT) returned to depreciating mode against the US dollar following higher demand for the greenback in the inter-bank foreign exchange market Tuesday evening.
The exchange rate of the BDT against the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.66 – BDT 80.68 at the evening transactions.
In the opening trading today, the exchange rate of the local currency was quoted BDT 80.65-BDT 80.66 that means, it gained two paisa from the morning trading.
“The Bangladesh currency returned to depreciating mode due to higher demand for the greenback in the market for settlement of import-payment obligations mainly for food grains and petroleum products,” a senior treasury official of a leading private commercial bank told the BBN in Dhaka Tuesday evening.
On Sunday and Monday, the local currency was quoted at maximum BDT 80.65-BDT 80.66 same as today opening.
On the last working day of the last week that means on Thursday, the US dollar was quoted at maximum BDT 80.65-BDT 80.66 during the evening trading.
Bangladesh foreign exchange market remained closed on Friday and Saturday as those were weekend in the country.
