Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– A nine-member Thai delegation, led by Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Foreign Secretary) Norachit Sinhaseni, arrives in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday to participate in the first-ever Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Bangladesh and Thailand to be held on Thursday.

The Thai delegation includes Director General and other senior officials of Department of South Asian, Middle East and African affairs and Director of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).

The Thai Permanent Secretary will be received at Hajrat Shahjalal Airport by senior officials of Bangladesh Foreign Ministry, an official statement said in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Bangladesh and Thailand signed an MoU on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and Thailand in 2012 during the visit of former Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra.

Under this MoU, the first-ever FOC is going to take place in Dhaka where Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque will lead the home side while his counterpart the Thai Permanent Secretary will lead the Thai side.

Bilateral trade, investment and technical cooperation, road, air and seaports connectivity, employment of Bangladeshi workers in Thailand, introduction of Buddhist circuit tourism between Bangladesh and Thailand, cooperation in defence, culture and sports and collaboration in regional for a, including Bimstec, ARF and ASEM are among the agenda of the consultations.

Following the FOC, the Thai Permanent Secretary is scheduled to call on the Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in the afternoon.
