Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN) – Ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan hit a brilliant century and took four wickets as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 87 runs in the first of the five-match Bashundhara Cement ODI series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the country’s port city, Chittagong on Friday.

After whitewashing Zimbabwe in three-match test series last week, the Bengal Tigers also made a flying start to take a 1-0 lead in the ODI series, despite losing three quick wickets — Tamim Iqbal (5), Anamul Haque (12) and Mahmudullah (1) — for just 31 runs in 11.4 overs.

Sent in to bat first, Bangladesh made a respectable total of 281 runs for 7 wickets in stipulated 50 overs.

After the initial batting collapse, the world famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan pairing with test captain Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the early damage contributing 148 runs in 23.4 in the 5th wicket stand to carry the team total to 218 runs, before Shakib was caught by Tinashe Panyangara off Tafadzwa Kamungozi.
Shakib smashed his 6th ODI century scoring of 101 runs off 99 balls with 10 fours and claimed four wickets for 41 runs. Later, Shakib was adjudged man of the match.   
Mushfiqur Rahim made his 17th ODI half-century scoring 65 runs off 72 balls with two fours and two sixes and was caught by Solomon Mire off T Panyangara at 246 for 6 in 47.2 overs.   

ODI debutant Sabbir Rahman hammered not out 44 off 25 balls with three fours and three sixes as the stunning addition for jam-packed audience in the stadium.
Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza added a single run off 8 balls while Arafat Sunny remained unbeaten on one run.  

T Panyangara claimed three wickets for 66 runs in 10 overs; Tendai Chatara grabbed two wickets for 48 runs, also in 10 overs, while John Nyumbu and T Kamungozi took one wicket each for 40 runs apiece in 7 and 8 overs respectively.

Chasing a target of 282 runs, Zimbabwe was dismissed for 194 runs in 42. 1 overs.

Number four Brendan Taylor made a half century scoring the team highest 54 runs off 72 balls with four fours and a six before he was caught by Mushfiqur Rahim off skipper Mashrafe delivery, leaving the team total 146 at 5 in 29.4 overs.

Opener Hamilton Masakadza scored 42 runs off 48 balls with seven fours before he was trapped leg before by Mahmudullah when scored board showing 92 for 3 in 16.3 overs.
 
Mushfiqur Rahim stumped opening batsman Sikander Raza (15) off a Shakib Al Hasan ball to make the first breakthrough when scoreboard showing 1 for 47 runs in 7.3 overs.   

Tendai Chatara (10) and Tafadzwa Kamungozi (not out 12) were the other notable scorers for the visitors.

Apart from Shakib’s four-wicket haul, Arafat Sunny, Mashrafe and Mahmudullah grabbed two wickets each for 22, 33 and 40 runs respectively.
