Bangladesh to amend act on birth registration

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government is going to amend the birth and death registration act keeping provision of taking permission from district magistrates if anyone wants registration after five years of someone's birth or death.
State Minister for LGRD and cooperatives Jahanagir Kabir Nanak disclosed it at a function in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday to mark the National Birth Registration Day.
He said no hand written birth or death certificates will be allowed after July 1, 2013.
Mr. Nanak mentioned that over 149.3 million birth certificates have been issued as of March 2012.
The law made placing birth certificate mandatory in 16 categories, including marriage, school admission and enlistment in voter list.
