Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The government will conduct a beggar survey after Eid festival as part of a plan for a rehabilitation program for the homeless, Social Welfare Minister Enamul Huq Mostafa Shaheed, has said.

“With the survey, the government will make a digital database with beggars’ photographs,’ he told a meeting titled ‘survey of the people involved in begging, rehabilitation and alternative employment’ held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Thursday.

At the first stage, the minister said, a day-long survey will be conducted in the Dhaka metropolitan area after Eid by dividing the metropolis into 10 zones.

Later, seven divisional cities—Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Rangpur and Barisal —would be brought under the programme to conduct the survey that would be completed within 10 days, the minister said.

He also said field level offices of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics would be involved to preserve the database as part of implementing the vision-2021 of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
