Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh government has planted to set up a Non-Resident-Bangladeshi (NRB) bank shortly aiming to meet the long standing demand of expatriate Bangladeshis, officials said.
The finance ministry has already asked the central bank of Bangladesh to prepare a draft act for the proposed bank.
Under the act, Bangladesh Bank (BB) will propose the government about the percentage of ownership to be held by NRBs, ownership of institutional investors, if any, and the government’s stake in the proposed bank.
The government has recently approved the formation of Expatriate Welfare Bank to serve the returnee migrant workers.
