Bangladesh to import $1.5 billion petroleum products by December

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- A cabinet panel has approved purchase of petroleum products worth $1.5 billion for the July-December period of this year, officials said.
The state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) will purchase 1.356 million tones of diesel, 0.19 million tones of jet oil, 40,000 tones of kerosene and 64,000 tones of octane for the period, Nurul Karim, additional secretary of the Cabinet Division said after a meeting of the cabinet committee on public purchases, chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the secretariat in the capital on Wednesday.
Mr. Karim said the estimated demand for the period is: diesel 1.695 million tones, kerosene 0.187 million tones, jet oil 0.185 million tones and octane at 57,000 tones.
Of the total demand, the state-owned Eastern Refinery Ltd will supply 0.180 million tones each of diesel and kerosene, according to the official.
The government will purchase the petroleum products from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Petronas Trading Corporation of Malaysia, Petrochina International (Singapore) Pte, Ltd, PNOC Exploration Corporation of the Philippines, Middle East Oil Refinery Limited of Egypt and Emirates National Oil Company, Mr Karim added.
