Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has taken an initiative to import cash US dollar through a commercial bank to meet the growing demand for the greenback in the market.
The disclosure was made at a meeting of bankers, held in the central bank headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir chaired the meeting.
“We’re now working for importing the cash US currency after waving of the taxes on such import,” SK Sur Chowdhury, deputy governor of the BB, told the BBN in Dhaka after the meeting.
The central bank has already sent a letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) seeking waving of tax on such import, he added.
