Bangladesh to import red lentil from Nepal

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is going to import red lentil from Nepal, officials said in Dhaka on Sunday.

The consignment from Nepal will reach the country by mid-January, and TCB will sale the item through its distributors, they added.

Nepal and India have banned pulse import due to bad production of the crop. However, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan at the WTO ministerial meet had a fruitful discussion with his Nepalese counterpart. Then the Nepalese commerce minister agreed to supply a substantial amount of pulse only to TCB.

A TCB team will go to Kathmandu to hammer out the final agreement and the price will be much lower, according to the officials.

Good quality red lentil is now selling at BDT 135 per kg in the local market, which was BDT 120 even a month back, according to reports.
