Bangladesh to impose surcharge on mobile phone users

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The Bangladesh government is going to impose surcharge on mobile phone users.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested Finance Minister AMA Muhith to impose the surcharge on mobile phone users.

The money earned from the surcharge will be spent on health and education sectors, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed during her concluding speech at a budget discussion session at Jatiya Sangshad Saturday.

The proposal was approved by the finance minister later.

Customs duty on mobile phones will be reduced to five percent from 10 percent and the three percent advanced income tax will be withdrawn.

Mobile phone users in Bangladesh pay a 15 percent VAT for any call they make or message they sent.
