Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The government will introduce electronic public procurement system with a view to ensuring efficient, effective and transparent bidding procedure for better service delivery to the people.

The electronic bidding process will be piloted in four key government agencies involved in large amount of procurements by January 31, 2011, a press statement said.

The agencies are Roads and Highways Department, Local Government Engineering Department, Rural Electrification Board, and Bangladesh Water Development Board.

The government has been implementing a follow-on Public Procurement Reform Project II (PPRP II) with the support from the World Bank aiming at improving the procurement performance in these four key agencies.

The World Bank is helping the government to move closer to the ‘Digital Bangladesh’ vision by supporting to introduce electronic public procurement system in the four agencies, according to the statement.

The on-line computerized procurement performance monitoring in these agencies is expected to be made fully functional around the same time.
