Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank of Bangladesh is going to issue 200 million pieces of BDT 1000-denomination bank note for the first time in the country from October 27, officials said.

"The 1000-taka bank notes will be circulated from the next week," Bangladesh Bank (BB), the country's central bank, Governor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed told reporters after a meeting with chief executive officers and managing directors of non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) on Wednesday.

However, a BB senior official told BBN in Dhaka that the new bank note would be available from October 27.

"We’ll issue 200 million pieces of such bank note in phases to meet the growing demand," another BB senior official said, adding that long-lasting paper has been used in making such bank notes.

The central bank of Bangladesh took the decision to issue the bank notes on demand for such notes from the country’s business community, the official added.

Most of the countries in South Asia including India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have already issued such bank notes.
