Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Bangladesh government has decided to issue six licences for setting up international terrestrial cables (ITC) connecting the country with the world via India, officials said.

The companies, which have been selected for the licences, are Novocom Limited, Asia-AHLJV, BD Link Communication Limited, Mango Teleservices Limited, Summit Communications Limited, and Fiber@Home Limited.

The officials also said the government will issue the licences by the end of this month.

The cables will pass through Meherpur, Benapol, Sylhet and Comilla borders.

Currently, Bangladesh is linked to the world through lone submarine cable SEA-ME-WE 4, without any backup facility, according to reports.
