Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- India has allowed Bangladesh to open a “deputy high commission” in its business hub Mumbai in line with an earlier proposal by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Government of India has conveyed its concurrence to the request made by the Government of Bangladesh to open their Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, India,” an Indian High Commission announcement said in Dhaka on Monday.
The announcement also said New Delhi took the decision “in pursuance of agreement reached between the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh as reflected in the Joint Communiqu,” during her India visit in January 2010.
With the opening of the new Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, Government of Bangladesh’s diplomatic representation in India would increase to four- in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and a Consular Office in Agartala.
A senior foreign ministry official in Dhaka acknowledged the receipt of New Delhi concurrence to Bangladesh proposal and said works were underway to open the mission in Mumbai.
