Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The government has fixed a target to procure 1.0 million tones of Boro rice this year from Thursday next.
“We’ve decided to procure the rice from domestic market to help the farmers and keep the market stable,” Food and Disaster Management Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque told reporters at his secretariat office in the capital Dhaka on Monday.
After a Food Planning and Monitoring Committee meeting, Dr Razzaque said the price for rice has been fixed at BDT 28 per Kg and BDT 18 for per kg paddy as the production cost of per Kg paddy was BDT 15.76.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Commerce Minister GM Quader, among others, were present at the meeting.
The minister also said that the total capacity of the country’s warehouse is 1.7 million tones. The country has now a stock of food of 1.25 million tones of rice and wheat. 
He said that the government had procured 350,000 tones of Aman rice this year.
