Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The government will procure 1.0 million metric tones of rice and paddy this year, Food Minister Abdur Razzaque said on Wednesday said.
The government will procure 150,000 metric tones of paddy from May 1 till September 30, he said adding that the price of per kg paddy has been fixed at BDT 18.50 against BDT 18 last year.
The minister was talking to reporters after a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee at his ministry in the capital Dhaka.
The government will buy 900,000 metric tones of rice from millers and local bazaars from May 1 till September 30. “Rice will be bought at BDT 29 per kg.”
Besides, the government will procure 150,000 metric tones of wheat from farmers from April 1 till June 30 this year at BDT 25 per kg, the minister added.
