Bangladesh to send medicines, clothes, tea to quake-struck Haiti

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh will send medical teams with adequate medicines, clothes and tea for the people of earthquake-hit Haiti, officials said in Dhaka on Thursday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a cabinet meeting on the day asked the health ministry to send a medical team with medicines and clothes to Haiti, the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters.

He also said the cabinet meeting also issued a condolence message to the Haiti government, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives and properties in the Tuesday’s earthquake.

The 7.0 magnitude quake struck shortly before 5 pm on Tuesday, and was centered about 10 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Dipu Moni in separate messages expressed their deep shock over the calamity and conveyed their sympathies for the victims.
