Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dipu Moni and the visiting Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi agreed on the imperative to correct imbalances in trade and development.
This was underlined when the UNCTAD secretary general called on Dipu Moni at her office in the capital Dhaka on Wednesday, a foreign ministry press statement said.
The foreign minister requested the UN body to put greater focus on the LDC specific issues such as market access, productive capacity, infrastructure, employment generation and technology transfer.
The secretary general appreciated Bangladesh’s achievements in attaining the development goals, and said other countries could benefit from the experience of Bangladesh.
He underlined the need for diversification of export basket and exploring new destinations.
Later, the secretary general called on Commerce Minister GM Quader and discussed issues related to trade diversification and increased market access.
The UN official will attend the launch of the World Marketing Summit in Dhaka on Thursday.
