Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has called upon the government to halt the export of fish during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The government should take steps to suspend the export of fish for the remaining days of Ramadan for increasing its supply to the local market and keep the prices within the purchasing capacity of the commoners,” the country’s apex trade body said in a statement on Sunday.
The monitoring cell of FBCCI found that the prices of all kinds of fish have shot up with the start of Ramadan due to short supply.
The prices of some essential items, including bringle, red chily, onion and garlic, have remained stable following the imposition of ban on their export as per the request of the FBCCI, it added.
