Bangladesh’s apparel workers call strike Saturday if dues not paid by Thursday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-The apparel workers of Tuba Group demonstrating for their three months’ dues have called strike at all the RMG units across Bangladesh on Saturday if their demands were not met by Thursday.

They also threatened to stage a countrywide demonstration on Thursday and Friday to press home their demands, reports a correspondent.
The workers are on hunger strike since July 28 in Badda area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, demanding payment of their due salaries for the month of May, June and July including festival bonus.
Earlier in the morning, more than 1,000 agitating workers remain confined inside the factory for eight hours as someone locked all the factory gates.
The agitating workers claimed that the factory authorities locked the gate.
Later, police opened the main gate around 12:00pm but restricted the movement of outsiders and media inside the factory.
