Bangladesh’s banks, stock markets to remain closed Tuesday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)–All branches of the scheduled banks and the Bangladesh Bank (BB) will remain closed in Dhaka North, South and Chittagong city corporations areas on Tuesday for the elections, official said.
Bangladesh Bank in a circular issued on Sunday said that the decision to keep closed all banks’ operations in the areas to facilitate the casting of votes by the bank officials and employees in the April 28 city corporations elections.
Trading and official activities of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) will also remain closed on Tuesday for the city corporation elections.
The elections to the Dhaka North, South and Chittagong city corporations will be held on April 28.
Trading and official activities of Dhaka Stock Exchange will remain closed on Tuesday since the Bangladesh government has declared April 28, 2015 as general holiday for the city corporations elections,” said a statement posted on DSE website.
A CSE web post reads: “All concerned are hereby informed that the CSE offices will remain closed on Tuesday since the Bangladesh government has declared April 28, 2015 as general holiday for Chittagong City Corporation Elections.
Therefore, there will be no trade on April 28, 2015.”
The normal trading and offices of DSE and CSE will resume on April 29, officials said.
