Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s apex trade body called upon on Saturday to the political parties to resolve the ongoing political crisis otherwise it will take legal measures for protecting the country’s economy.

“We’ve called upon the political parties to take effective steps for resolving the ongoing political impasse. Otherwise, considering the ongoing political situation, we will be compelled of thinking to seek legal protection, if law covers,” President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed told reporters on the day at its office in the capital Dhaka..

The FBCCI chief also said the board of the FBCCI empowered him to go for legal protection as they do not want to get affected further.

Earlier, the FBCCI leaders had a meeting to discuss the current political situation and find out way forward having their backs pushed against the wall.

“Before the January-5 elections they had met the top leaders of Awami League and BNP but there had been no positive outcome,” the FBCCI chief said while replying to a query.

“We don’t want to get affected further. Businesspeople will do business and politicians will do politics,” he said adding that for the sake of country’s economy, they will seek legal remedy to get rid of negative political programmes.

The FBCCI president said transport, industrial production and tourism sectors are the worst affected areas due to recent blockade programmes. “The transport sector alone suffers a loss of around BDT 2.0 billion every day.”
