Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The number of mobile phone subscribers in Bangladesh reached 70.340 million till January this year against 53.83 million of the corresponding period of previous year.
Grameen Phone Limited (GP), the largest mobile service operator of the country has 30.428 million in January 2011 subscribers which was 23.48 million in January 2010, according to the state-run Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) statistics.
Orascom Telecom Bangladesh Limited, generally known as Banglalink, is in the second position with 20.038 million subscribers which was 14.07 million in January last year. 
Subscribers of Axiata Bangladesh Limited, generally known as Robi, have reached 12.626 million, Airtel Bangladesh Ltd (Airtel) 4.184 million, Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited, generally known as Citycell 1.858 million and the state-run Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, generally known as Teletalk, 1.208 million.
Many mobile phone subscribers are using more than one SIM number so the exact number of users of mobile phone is difficult to ascertain, market operators said, adding that there might be more than 10 million people who are out of the BTRC data.
