Last updated: October 8, 2016

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s denim makers want to improve the safety situation along with infrastructure facilities further in the fashion industry for attracting more global buyers.
The observations were made at a two-day long denim expo with the theme of ‘VINTAGE RECALL’ held in the capital Dhaka on October 5-6, reports the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL.
“Bangladesh needs to improve both infrastructure facilities and safety situation in the apparel and clothing industry,” Kamruzzaman, manager sale & marketing (Bangladesh) of Karachi-based S.M. Group, told the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL on Thursday.
He also called upon Bangladesh government to resolve gas and electricity supply problems particularly for denim factories to help the industry attain US$50 billion export target by 2021.
“Bangladesh will be able to fetch $50 billion exporting apparel products by 2021if the existing export growth continues,” Fazlul Haque, vice-president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), said while addressing at the opening session of the expo on Wednesday.
Bangladesh government, buyers and development partners are working jointly to ensure safety standards of the apparel factories since the 2013 Rana Plaza disaster.
Besides making factories safer, the US$28-billion industry is moving towards environmental sustainability, with 33 factories getting certification from the US Green Building Council and 11 of those receiving platinum ratings, according to the RMG exporters.
Talking to the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL, William Wong, general manager of the Chinese Guangzhoug G-Tara Textile Limited, said such expo helps Bangladesh to expedite apparel product exports through attracting the global buyers.
“Our objective has been always to show the world the immense opportunity in Bangladesh through our denim show,” Sandeep Agarwal, the key organizer of the fair, explained.
Mr. Agarwal also said the next expo is scheduled to be held in the capital Dhaka on March 1-2, 2017.
Denimsandjeans.com, a website dedicated to the world denim industry since 2007, organised the show aiming to provide a platform, where the global denim community came together for sharing, interacting and establishing future transactions with Bangladeshi suppliers.
