Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dipu Moni who is now in Thimphu to attend the 33rd session of the SAARC Council of Minister, had an audience with Fifth King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk on Wednesday.
The foreign minister handed over a letter of invitation from President Zillur Rahman to the King inviting him to visit Bangladesh as a guest during the 40th anniversary celebrations of Independence and National Day on March 26 this year.
The King graciously accepted the invitation and said that he would be happy to visit Bangladesh on the occasion. The King recalled that he had visited Bangladesh only once as a young boy and was keen to visit the country once again.
During the nearly hour-long audience, the foreign minister took the opportunity to recall the recently concluded successful visit to Bangladesh by Bhutan’s prime minister which had contributed to further cementing of the relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan. 
She referred to the multifaceted relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan based on similarity of views and shared vision for socio-economic upliftment of the peoples of the two countries.
Dipu Moni also briefed the King on the outcome of the council of ministers and complimented Bhutan for not only successfully holding the 16th SAARC Summit last year but subsequently for following up on the various initiatives to carry the SAARC process forward. 
Foreign Secretary Mijarul Quayes and Imtiaz Ahmed, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan were present.
