Bangladesh’s stocks stay down at midday on Monday

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Bangladesh’s stocks maintained the downward trend at midday on Monday as cautious investors continued their selling spree on sector-wise stocks.

Dealers said as the Bangladesh Bank (BB) fined seven banks for violating securities rules on share investment and is now investigating the stock activities of another eight banks, investors followed cautious stance.

Following the previous day’s marginal gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened lower, but turnover remained encouraging.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 26 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 53 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX plunged more than 36 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 48 points at 11:00am.

After 90 minutes of trading, DSEX fell nearly 65 points, while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse slumped 98 points when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

DHAKA STOCK EXCHANGE

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 6,140 points, losing nearly 65 points or 1.04 percent at 12:00 noon.
Two other indices also saw downward trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 17 points or 0.77 percent to reach at 2,198 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 5.45 points or 0.40 percent to reach at 1,349 points.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at BDT 4.17 billion, when the report was filed at 12:00 noon.

LankaBangla Finance led the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 370 million changing hands, closely followed Islami Bank BDT 175 million, Uttara Bank BDT 151 million, National Bank BDT 142 million and IFIC Bank BDT 132 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 96 advanced, 157 declined and 54 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

CHITTAGONG STOCK EXCHANGE
The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX –shedding 98 points to stand at 11,557 points, also at 12:00 noon.

Of the issues traded till then, 58 gained, 91 declined and 18 issues remained unchanged with BDT 170 million in turnover.
