Bangladesh’s stocks break losing streak

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN): The prices of most stocks on the bourses---Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed higher on Tuesday, breaking sixth session of losing streak.

The General Index of the DSE----DGEN ended at 4,147.29 points, after gaining 54.01 points or 1.31 per cent.

The DSE Broad Index (DSEX), the benchmark index of the DSE went up by 58.12 points or 1.44 per cent to close at 4,068.40 points. The DSE-30 Index (DS30) also gained 18.93 points or 1.30 per cent to close at 1,465.47.

The turnover on the premier bourse, however, dropped 15.55 per cent to BDT 2.66 billion against previous session’s BDT 3.15 billion.

Of the 267 issues traded on the premier bourse, 211 advanced, 34 and 22 remained unchanged.

Summit Purbanchol Power Company topped the turnover list with shares worth BDT 224.93 million changing hands. Argon Denims, United Airways and Unique Hotel and Resorts were the day’s next popular stocks.

Newly listed Argon Denims was also the day’s highest gainer posting a rise of 12.16 per cent while FAS Finance and Investment was the worst loser, slumping by 6.49 per cent following poor corporate declaration.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher after sixth session with the Selective Categories Index of the CSE gained 138.15 points to close at 8,111.85 points.

Of the 173 issues traded on the port city bourse, 135 advanced, 26 declined and 12 remained unchanged. A total of 9.36 million shares traded, generating BDT 385.44 million in turnover.
