Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh’s stocks closed flat on Tuesday with sluggish trading activities as investors remained in watchful mood amid lack of clear direction.
 
DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) ended at 4,376.52 points, shedding only 0.24 points.
 
However, the other two indices closed in positive. The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 3.01 points or 0.18 percent to close at 1,606.54 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) rose 2.14 points or 0.21 percent to close at 994.14 points.
 
Turnover on DSE stood at BDT 2.18 billion, registering an increase of 13.54 percent over the previous session’s 6-week low value of BDT 1.92 billion.
 
The losers took a strong modest lead over the gainers as out of 289 issues traded, 135 declined, 105 advanced and 49 remained unchanged on the DSE floor. 
 
FAR Chemical, which made debut Tuesday, was the most traded stocks with shares worth BDT 276.85 million changing hands followed by GP, Lafarge Surma Cement, Beximco and Olympic Industries.
 
FAR Chemical also the day’s highest gainer, posting a rise of 426 percent while Savar Refractories was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 5.42 percent.
 
The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended flat with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained slightly by 0.46 points to close at 8,345.63 points.
 
Losers beat gainers 119, 52, with 29 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 6.71 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 233.07 million.
