Bangladesh’s stocks close flat

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks ended flat on Monday with turnover on the major bourse crossing Tk 4.0 billion after four weeks as late profit booking cut early gains.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, ended at 4,447.45 points, shedding 1.12 points or 0.02 percent.

The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 12.38 points or 0.76 percent to close at 1,638.46 points. The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) went up by 3.76 points or 0.37 percent to close at 1,007.01 points.

DSE turnover stood at BDT 4.32 billion, registering an increase of 15 percent over the previous session’s value of BDT 3.76 billion.

IDLC Investments, said at the absent of any directional movement, investors were in sell-off mode in large number of stocks. Benchmark index kept flat with contribution from the Large Cap stocks positive tone.

 “The market started positively yet it failed to sustain the momentum as the investors’ profit booking attitude generated selling pressure,” commented International Leasing Securities.

“After pulling back significantly in recent sessions, multinational companies have shown strong move back to the upside,” commented LankaBangla Securities.

Out of 297 issues traded, 190 declined, 80 advanced and 27 closed unchanged on the DSE floor.

GP continued to top the turnover chart with shares worth BDT 489.32 million changing hands followed by Meghna Petroleum, Square Pharma, Lafarge Surma Cement and Wata Chemicals.

Wata Chemicals of the pharmaceutical sector exhibited extraordinary gains, posting a rise of 714.54 percent following its corporate declaration of 30 percent stock dividend. Its share closed at BDT 487.1 which was BDT 59.8 on Sunday.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), however, closed marginally higher with its Selective Categories Index – CSCX – gained 18.72 points to close at 8,486.93 points.

Losers beat gainers 138 to 53, with 25 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 8.42 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 1.09 billion.
