Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh’s stocks closed higher on Tuesday after two session’s flat movement with turnover remained sluggish as investors went for buying spree.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), crossed the 4,400 points mark after three sessions and ended at 4,415.75 points, gaining 37.41 point or 0.85 percent.

The DS30, comprising blue chips gained 12.91 points or 0.81 percent to close at 1,602.32 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also advanced 7.64 points or 0.78 percent to close at 985.51 points.

Total turnover at DSE stood at BDT 2.40 billion which was 1.69 percent higher over the previous session’s value.

Out of 294 issues traded, 161 advanced, 82 declined and 51 closed unchanged on the DSE floor.

Lafarge Surma Cement was the top turnover leader with shares worth BDT 174.34 million changing hands followed by GP, Square Pharma, Mercantile Bank and Heidelberg Cement.

Eastern Housing Ltd was the day’s highest gainer; posting a rise of 8.18 percent while Standard Insurance was the day’s worst losers, slumping by 6.49 percent.

The port city bourse — Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) — also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index — CSCX– gained 60.60 points to close at 8,478.03 points.

Gainers beat losers 01 to 82, with 26 issues remaining unchanged at the port city bourse that traded 5.25 million shares and mutual fund units, turnover value of BDT 177.03 million.
